A Friend is a person that we are very fond of, with whom we want to spend our time and share all our secrets. A great writer has written a very meaningful thought about a good friend, he mentions that he would rather walk with a friend in the dark than walking alone in the light.
The Bible says that a good friend is a great blessing from God. Finding good friends is a very hard task so Word of God teaches us to be very sensible in making friends.
How to Recognize Your True Friends??A very difficult decision to be made by all of us is which relationships are worth continuing and which ones need to be stopped at once. Proverbs 18:24 says ‘A man with many companions may come to ruin but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother’. In the eyes of God a good friend is someone who is reliable and takes care of his friend’s best interest. For instance if his friend gives importance in attending church service, reading scriptures and sharing the Word of God with others a true and godly friend will never stop him from doing all these but rather encourage him and stand with him in every phase of his life.
In Ecclesiastes 4: 9 and 10 it is written ‘Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up.’
The Bible also asks us to be careful in falling into bad company. As 1 Corinthians 15:33 says ‘Bad company ruins good morals’. Here the Bible warns all of us not to be deceived by someone who does not believe in God as they can mislead you. There is a great risk of hindering your walk with God as an ungodly friend can change your way of thinking by imposing their worldly thoughts and corrupting your thought process.
Our Lord Jesus is the great role model for friendship. He has bestowed his unending love and kindness on all of us. When our friends left us in our bad situations only Jesus was with us and proved to us that He is our best friend. As Jesus Christ said in John 15 12-14 –‘This is my commandment , that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends. You are MY FRIENDS if you do what I command’.
So dear people of God , JESUS is our BEST FRIEND so Love Him with all your heart and follow His commandments whatever may happen. This is the most precious and honest friendship that we will ever have.
