Often, Christians are quick to defend the deity of Jesus and rightly so. The deity of Christ has been under attack from the beginning of church history and until today. However, they forget that the divine nature of Jesus did not and could not bring about salvation. It was the human nature of Jesus, which He submitted in perfect obedience to God, doing and delighting in the Father’s will and ultimately shedding His blood to provide atonement for the sins of His people. In becoming a man, Jesus becomes our representative, who through perfect heart desire and attitude, loves and serves God with all His heart, all His mind, and all His soul, the one thing that no other man could ever accomplish. Ultimately, the hope and promise of the Christian faith is not that one day we too shall share in His divine nature, but in His glorified, resurrected human nature.

Because Christ shared in man’s sinful humanity, all who believe in Him have the privilege and honor to partake in His new, fully human, glorified physical nature which He has in heaven. The resurrection of Christ and His appearance to many in His glorious body assures that every believer will have a heavenly body like Jesus’ “glorious body.” Scripture affirms that every believer will receive a body which is similar to the resurrected body of Christ. In 2 Corinthians, Paul compares their earthly bodies to tents and heavenly bodies to heavenly dwellings. Once the earthly tents come off in death, a believer will not remain as a spirit or be left “naked” without a body, but will be ‘clothed’ with a glorious body. When this new heavenly body is “put on,” a Christian will pass from mortality into immortality.

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” Philippians 3:20-21
