It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George Verwer, a distinguished evangelist and founder of Operation Mobilisation (OM), a globally recognized Christian missions organization. George was a stalwart of the faith, who dedicated his life to serving God and reaching out to the lost world.

George Verwer’s passion for the gospel led him to co-found OM in 1957, together with Walter Borchard and Dale Rhoton. He was an inspiring leader who trained thousands of young women and men to become vessels for the mission, with OM currently operating in 118 countries and having over 6,800 personnel worldwide. George’s unwavering commitment to the cause saw him serve as the leader of OM for over 40 years before stepping down in August 2003.

In addition to his remarkable work as a missionary, George was also a prolific author and wrote several books on various Christian themes, including “Come, Live, Die,” “Hunger for Reality,” “No Turning Back,” “Out of the Comfort Zone,” and “Messiology.” He was a fervent advocate of radical discipleship, viewing it as the only legitimate option for those who believe in Jesus.

George and his wife Drena were involved in Special Projects Ministries full-time, and they travelled around the world, taking meetings and ministering to people. The couple had three children together.

George’s love for souls knew no bounds, and he was known to pray fervently for each nation on the globe night and day. He will be remembered as a man of God, who dedicated his life to serving others and spreading the message of hope and salvation. His standard dressing style, a shirt with the globe on it, symbolized his global vision and his unwavering commitment to the mission of Christ.
