Article: God Understands And Feels Our Pain | Jacob Varghese

God has a purpose for pain and suffering in our lives. We all go through pain and suffering in life but remember that God allows pain and suffering in our lives for a reason, and He allows it for a season. God is fully aware of everything that you and I go through in our lives. In the Bible we see in Isaiah chapter 63 verse 9 in all their affliction he was afflicted and the angel of his presence saved them. Remember that in your times of affliction and distress God also understands and feels your pain. He sees your tears and heartache. In the book of Lamentations chapter 3 and verse 33 we see that God doesn’t willingly allow suffering
or grief to anyone. Yes, my dear friends, our God is a good God and He wants to do good in our life but when He allows pain and suffering, He has a purpose.
In the Bible we see a man named Job who lived an upright and righteous life. Inspite of the good life Job lived, he went through huge sufferings in his life. When Job went through sufferings and pain in life, he never questioned or cursed God. In fact he praised God for the situation that God allowed in his life, because Job stood the time of testing. God has rewarded him and given him a double portion of all the blessings that he has lost in his life. Remember my friends when you stand the time of testing and trials God rewards you and gives you back Joy for all the sorrow that you have experienced. Job chapter 42 verse 5 we see that until now my ears have heard of you, now my eyes have seen you. Yes before Job went through suffering, he could only hear God, he only heard God’s words but after he went through suffering his walk with the Lord has deepened and his relationship with God has become stronger and he said Lord, I could see you in my trials and sufferings.
Remember my friends that God wants you to draw closer to him while you suffer in your life. In Malachi 3:3 we see “He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver”. You might have heard this story before about the woman who goes to a silversmith to watch the process of refining silver. There was a woman who wanted to see the process how silver is refined. She had an appointment with a silversmith. She went and sat with him. As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained the woman that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities. Then he said, not only I had to sit there holding the silver, but had to keep my eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed. The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, ‘How do you know exactly when the silver is fully refined?’ He smiled at her and answered, ‘Oh, that is easy — when I can see my image as exactly in it, then I know that the silver is refined a hundred percent. Then the woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot. I have heard this silver analogy many times. This story becomes more beautiful, more real for my life each time I heard it. Remember my friends that God allows trials and testing for a purpose. It is to refine us and make and mould us into His likeness. When He sees His image in us that is exactly God wants from you and me. Remember that the flames of fire are not meant to destroy the silver but only to refine it. God allows trials and testing in our life not to destroy us but to actually refine us, make and mould us into His likeness. Even as you are going through pain and suffering in your life, remember my friends this pain and suffering wouldn’t last forever. We have a God who liberates us who releases us from the pain and suffering and He gives us joy for all the sorrow that we experience in life.
We all face hard and tough situation in life. When we face difficulties, we get depressed and disappointed, but the word of God says in Psalm 46 verse 1 God is our refuge and strength,
and an ever-present help in trouble. Yes, when we face hard times, we would like to have our family and friends to support us but we might not be able to get the support and strength that we need from them but remember that God is always there and always available to help you in the time of need. Jesus is giving an open invitation to all of us in Matthew chapter 11 verse 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” So many times in life we get restless that is because we don’t put our burdens on the Lord. We don’t trust in Him. We don’t depend on Him. We try to carry our burdens ourselves and that is the reason we get restless and we lose our joy in life. The Bible also says to cast all our cares on Him because He cares for us. Remember more than your father and mother, more than your dear friends and dear ones, God cares about you. He is concerned for you and He has good thoughts and plans for your life. We all make plans and thoughts for our life but the Bible says that God’s plans and thoughts for our lives are much greater and higher than the plans that we have for ourselves. When we are faced with hard times in life, we get a question- will I be able to get through this situation? Is there a solution to my problem?
I would like to share an illustration to encourage you. There was a soldier who believed in Jesus Christ and when he was fighting in a battle field, the enemy started overtaking them and the soldiers started running to save their lives and this soldier who believed in the Lord went and hid himself in a cave and as soon as he entered the cave he started praying, “oh Lord I trust in you, and I know you are a good God, please save my life from the enemy” As soon as he finished that prayer and when he opened his eyes, he saw a spider coming to the entrance of the cave and the spider knit a web at the entrance. When this soldier saw the spider web, he said Lord, I don’t know how you are going to protect me but all I wanted is protection from my enemies. Now he was wondering how he is going to be protected with this spider web. After some time he heard the enemy’s footsteps coming in the direction in which this soldier was hiding. He started praying even harder to save his life. When the enemies came towards him, he heard the leader of the enemy camp said, let us not waste time searching in this cave because if there is someone in there couldn’t be a spider web here. So let us go forward and search in other places and the enemies left. This soldier was surprised at the way how God has protected him miraculously. He just praised God and said Lord all I wanted was a brick wall but this spider web which you have sent for me is much stronger than the brick wall I wanted. Yes, dear friends, our God works in mysterious ways and we do not know really how God works but when you trust in Him, He would work out all situations for your benefit and He will see you through your tough time. Just trust in Him and depend on Him whatever situation you are going through. Remember that God has a solution for all your problems. I would like to close this with a verse from the Bible. Proverbs chapter 3 verse 5 & 6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding and in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight” Yes, God can straighten your paths. He can remove all obstacles from your life and He will give you success.
