How shall I cleanse my way or keep my way pure? – A Skepticism that must have arose deep down in many young minds as a Christian youth; When today, as we witness many adults around us who haven’t provided the right examples for us to follow and many others who have compromised on the Biblical truths and scriptural attitudes. In the midst of these contradictory cues and poor paradigms set by many around us, it is high time that we as true followers of Christ fix our focus on Him and set Him alone as our role model and lead. A Christian must consider seriously the word of God that emphasis on not conforming to the lifestyle or standards this world (trends, media, magazines, music, video games) offers and choose to stand out of the hypocritical crowd instead. Consider what the Psalmist says in Psalms 119- “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.” In order to keep one’s way pure one need to walk according to the word of GOD, because blessed is he who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, but whose delight is in His word. For the Lord knows the way of His people; but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Job 34:32 says, “That which I see not teach you me; if I have done iniquity; I will do no more.” Rick Warren once said,”No self-help program can change our heart (us) only God can do that.” Wanting a change and being the changed one through His correction – There’s a huge difference. When we want such a change, we need to be willing to accept His mending drill and counsel. And so it is very essential as a child of God to be able to discern what is and what’s not from God. The most important virtue of a Christian for such wisdom is, leading a prayer filled life; a simple ordinary person trusting an All-Mighty God who never fails to accomplish, out of the ordinary wonders for him/her. Praying to God to teach us His way that we may live in His truth; to direct and unite our heart solely to fear and honor His name (Ps 86:11) must be our inclination. Desire to pray to God to cause us to understand wherein we have erred is the character of a godly person. The wisest person that this world has and will ever see has said, “Hear counsel, receive instruction and accept correction that you may be wise in time to come.” (Proverbs 19:20, 21)

 Many plans are in man’s mind but it is the Lord’s design for him/her that’s everlasting. Hamartia the Greek word used for sin meaning- to miss the mark. In life when we fail to hit the divine target – His purpose, we Sin – times when we backslide, when give up in place of being an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Let’s stop being a false example to the next generation but resolve to keep words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart acceptable and pleasing in His sight.
This is the secret to a successful Christian life.
