POEM: WHAT IS IN YOUR HAND? | Pr. Ribi Kenneth, UAE

The enemy lines catch up in hot pursuit,
Now, death seems to be the only escape route,

The redeemed reels and slips into dispute,
With no hope of a passage through the red sea.
“What is in your hand, Moses”? God enquires,
“Only my old shepherd staff, Lord”, Moses declares,
“Raise it up, my child, and part the sea”, The Creator answers.
Oh!, To rely on the old experience stick is futile, you see,
But when God says, “Let there be”,
His grace will perfect what should be!

The creditor’s brute chants gain intense,
Now, the child as the pledge is the outcome hence,
The widow and her sons have none in defence,
What’s more, there is not enough pay to set them free.
“What is in your hand, Lady”? God enquires,
“A handful of flour and pinch oil, Lord”, the widow declares,
“Pour it out, my child and the jar will not run dry”, The Creator answers.
Oh!, to rely on diminishing resources is futile, you see,
But when God says, “Let there be”,
His grace will perfect what should be!

Scurrying through the massive rows of tiring hearers,
Now, there is no food to find, nor any well-wishers,
The multitude of thousands are all in jitters,
It’s a fact no merchant or supply stock is to this degree.
“What is in your hand, Andrew”? God enquires
“Just five loaves and two fish it is, Lord”, Andrew declares,
Give it up, and I will bless and break it to fill,” The Creator answers.
Oh!, To rely on self-sufficiency is futile, you see
But when God says, “Let there be”,
His grace will perfect what should be!

So what is in your hand today, my child?
It is the clue to what God can do when He is by your side,
May you always keep them clean and undefiled,
Because it’s you, not yours, God requires, you see.
So will your hands be strong when God enquires?
“Here I am, Lord”, may this be what your mouth declares,
“I open my hand and satisfy every living being.”, The Creator answers.
Oh, to rely on this mighty hand is the very key,
For when God says, “Let there be”,
Forever engraved in his hands, you will be!
