English Article: Hope! The Cord that cannot be broken, Benoy J. Thomas

HOPE! A powerful & frequently used word, but tragically associated by the world in times of despair to only account for another layer of uncertainty. But to a Christian, that word is more than just a mere imagination or wishful thinking for a better tomorrow. On the contrary, it is the confidence and the assurance of a promise that will never fail. David, prophetically cries out in Psalms 62:5 “Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.” The Hebrew translation of hope here literally means “a cord, that is attached”. In our lives, no matter what season we’re all going through, we all have something or someone that we’re clinging to for security. But I assure you, if that something or someone is anyone other than God, then you’re hanging on to the wrong cord for your security.

Hope is the anchor of our Soul (Heb 6:19) that brings stability to a Christians life, because he knows whose he is and whom he serves (Acts 27:23). That firm reminder stands as a lighthouse to each of our lives through the calm and through the storm. Building in us a deeper and longing affection to be in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. The arms in which there will be no more separation, no more fear, no more pain, no more suffering. Those arms that only bring joy and no more tears. We are reminded once again that our hope is that of an eternal life with our creator, and that we’re just momentary sojourners on this earth – here today and gone tomorrow – created to fulfill the will of the Father and thereafter return to the home of our dreams where we truly belong. Therefore, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Rom 15:13).
