Book Review : Pearls of Wisdom By James I Samuel

Review by Abin Alex

James Samuel recently published a children’s book titled Pearls of Wisdom: Stories based on the Book of Proverbs from the Bible. The book is a collection of short stories that is enriching for all ages. James wrote this book so that children would have a new appreciation for the Book of Proverbs.
The short stories expound on the meaning of a few individual proverbs. Few of the stories also reference the parables of Jesus. For example, Jesus compared the kingdom of God to a mustard seed, which is smaller than all seeds but when planted becomes a large tree. James used the idea from the parable to connect with Proverbs 13:12. The story based on this proverb can be found below as an excerpt from the book.
The book is available on, Barnes & Noble and other distributors. James hopes that many people would enjoy this book and that churches would use it to provide Sunday School kids with a new appreciation for the Book of Proverbs.
James lives in Connecticut, USA with his wife, Milly, and two children, Janice and Jessia. For more information, please reach James at
”A mustard seed met few other seeds one day. Apple, orange, lemon, pear, and many other seeds were there. To the dismay of the mustard seed, she found that of all the seeds, she was the smallest seed. The mustard seed was so upset and wished she was bigger like the other seeds. She cried and went away from the other seeds. This seed was sad that she would be little all her life and would not compare to all the other seeds. One day, the mustard seed was placed into the soil and something spectacular happened. This seed sprouted into a large tree. The small mustard seed became one of the largest trees in the garden.”
Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
