And they called him “Doubting Thomas”
Thomas was one of the members from Team Jesus. After Jesus died and resurrected on the third day, Jesus visited many. When Jesus encountered a part of his team, Thomas was not present at that time. After returning to the camp, He didn’t believe a single word of his companions about Jesus visiting them after the resurrection. It took only Jesus to change that doubt from Thomas’s mind after Jesus visited the latter and showed Thomas the live proof that He is indeed back from the dead. Thomas apologised and moved on, but a nickname caught on, and it never ceased to exist from the minds of many. From that day to this day, Thomas was also called with a nickname – “Doubting” Thomas. After the ascension of Jesus, the Team scattered to various part of the World. Thomas took Gospel seriously and He ended up bringing Gospel to Asia, majorly in India. He was a catalyst or a seed that brought a big revival into India.
Thomas did a great mission. He was passionate and he completed that passion into a vision and into a reality. Still, today the World calls him “Doubting” Thomas. That is the harsh reality of this world we live in. If you did 100 good things and 1 small tiny mistake, this world will focus on that 1 mistake and make it bigger than those 100 good works. Accept it. It’s a harsh reality.
There is a bright lesson that I learned from the life of Thomas. If Thomas would have heard such nicknames being called at him and if he would have stayed down, depressed and sad seeing such hostile behaviour, Asian Countries like India would have never heard gospel. We should thank God for giving Thomas a bold and strong heart to take those hurtful taunts he received and staying focused on fulfilling his life’s purpose.
I want to conclude by saying that No matter what taunts and insults is being thrown at you, stay focused on your purpose. Pursue and fulfil it. Do not be concerned about other’s opinions of your life. Let God be the Judge. Let God handle those taunts …for revenge is not ours to take but It’s His war to fight
Be strong, move on and fulfil your calling.
God bless you!
