Article: PAINFUL PROCESS TO PROMISED PURPOSE – A JOURNEY | Gladys Biju George
There is always some sort of pain to be undergone before reaching a destination filled with happiness. It says, ‘No crown without a cross’. This applies in every aspects of life. A lot of hardworks and struggles faced by a student eventually makes him or her to come out with a good score. People may be unaware of the painful processes we go through but they will witness the promised purposes fulfilling in our life. The process may include rejection, loneliness, reproaches and sufferings but the only criteria to be followed is just to wait for the Almighty’s will and perfect moment with patience. Apart from that, faithfulness is of core importance during the process. In the scripture too there are some who obtained promise after doing the will of God. They are as follows:
1) The best example is the role model, our Lord and saviour- Jesus Christ. He came to this sinful earth by stripping the glory that he was adorned with, in the heavenly places. It was a painful process of life especially from the garden of Gethsamane to the place of skull- Golgotha. Prophet Isaiah briefly describes the pain of Jesus. While people desired to see his end in the tomb, they could not, as he rose again the third day by breaking the laws of death and hades. He ascended, sat down at the right hand of God’s throne, was highly exalted, given the name above all names. The divine promises mentioned long ago through the prophets was being fulfilled. Not only that, the purpose of Almighty to reconcile mankind with the creator that they may inherit the lost glory also came into existence.
2. David- the second king of Israel went through pains many times in his life which can be clearly understood while reading the book of Psalms. He was forsaken by his parents, was rejected, considered of least value (a shepherd) and also ignored. Inspite of all the situations that arose against him, he just indulged himself in praising God in the loneliness of the wilderness. Even after the anointing he was in the desert. But one day within a short span of time, in just a single war, in the midst of Goliath and Philistine army’s challenge, he proved the power of the Holy One of Israel and was assigned as one who slained ten thousands. After that the purpose of God started to fulfill in his life. There were people who planned to kill him but since God was with him nothing could ever harm him. He was added to the genealogy of Christ. God also established his throne.
3. The writer of Hebrews mentions about our forefather- Abraham who waited for the city, which has foundations whose builder is God. He continues that, These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth (Heb :11:13)
All throughout the scripture, lot of people can be pointed out. Jabez, Hannah, Joseph, Job etc. All of them went through painful trials but the circumstances didn’t remain the same. Situations could never destroy or hinder the promised purposes in their lives. In short, all of them were just being shaped and moulded by the creator in the similar way as how a potter does. Eventually they came out like a perfect vessel useful and prepared for every divine work. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it (Heb :12:11). So if ever we go through some painful process in life it indicates a clear picture of God’s plan to be revealed ahead of us. May the Lord guide each of us to his predestined purpose ordained before the foundation of the world.
