Article: COVENANT OF ALMIGHTY GOD | Gladys Biju George
Covenant is an unchangeable oath which is established between God and man. Itdescribes faithfulness of creator to the creations. It’s not received by everyone rather only by those who are faithful and obtain grace in the presence of the Lord. In Oldtestament we see that not only did God make the covenant but he even regarded it by being merciful and remembering after many generations. Nehemiah:9:32 says, "i Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and awesome God, who keeps covenant and mercy. The Israelities continued that, God found the heart of Abram faithful and made a covenant with him. God even performed his words.(Neh:9: 8). All throughout the scripture we see lot of men with whom Almighty made covenant. Some of them are:
1) God spoke to Noah about the flood that he is going to bring on the earth. Noah was also instructed to make an ark. “But I will establish My covenant with you (Gen:6:18). We see that there was flood which destroyed every living being from the face of earth. After this God made എ covenant again stating “Thus i establish My Covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”(Gen:9:11). The rainbow in the cloud was set as a sign of the covenant between God and earth. God even assures that he will remember his covenant. (Gen:9:15,16).
2) God called Abram from Ur of Chaldeans. He obeyed the voice of Lord faithfully even after being unknown about the place where he was going. It says in (Gen:15:18). O in the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates. In Genesis :17 God spoke constantly about his covenant to Abram. It included:o multiply him(vs 2), to make him father of many nations(vs 4), to be his God and also of his descendants(vs 7), as a part of that he was instructed ട്ടോ circumcise every male child(vs 10), to establish covenant with Issac (vs 19&21).
3) For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people (Heb:8: 10). This was established by God for his holy and chosen people.
By so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant(Heb:7:22). And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgression under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. (Heb:9:15) Jesus is the only mediator and surety of the covenant. Through him alone we have access to the Father and hope of eternal life. Since we have received the previledge to be a part of this covenant letus continue in that fellowship and may Almighty’s name be glorified throughus. God bless all .
