Article:10 Questions You Would Like To Ask | Roshan Benzy George

1. Who created God?
Ans: This question is based on the assumption that God was created. What if He wasn’t? The God of the Bible wasn’t created, He was eternal. It is a logical mistake to ask who created an uncreated God.

2. Is there anything God cannot do?
Ans: God is omnipotent but there are some things that God can’t do. God can’t sin. God can’t lie. God can’t change His nature. God can’t deny the demands of His holy character. God can’t make a square circle, for the notion of a square circle is self-contradictory. God can’t cease to be God. But all that God wills and promises He can and will do.

3. Is the New Testament Picture of Jesus Reliable?
Ans: Yes. There are 5400+ Greek manuscripts, 10,000+ Latin, Aramaic, Coptic manuscripts of the New Testament in the world. All of these manuscripts date before 4th century. The best manuscripts date back to A.D. 350. And parts of John’s Gospel even date back to 130 A.D. It must not have been corrupted because there was no central control of the Bible before 4th century. Jesus’ disciples used to copy and spread the New Testament everywhere, so no one can come and change the New Testament suddenly. Even though someone could change the manuscripts in their area, what would that person do with the other manuscripts throughout the old world? Since there are so many manuscripts, nowadays scholars can easily reconstruct the message of the New Testament with 99.9 percent accuracy. The message of the New Testament is reliable and not corrupted. What if the story was corrupted or fabricated by Jesus’ own disciples at 1st century? They would have recanted their testimony, upon facing death. Many of Jesus’ disciples were tortured and killed. No one willingly dies for a lie. If Jesus’ own disciples fabricated or corrupted, they wouldn’t be ready to die for a thing they themselves fabricated.

4. How can Jesus both be human and God?
Ans: Once a young physicist asked Oxford mathematician John Lennox, “So you believe that Jesus was both God and human. You’re a professor of mathematics. You can’t seriously believe that.”
John Lennox: “Can I ask two questions. The first is, ‘What is consciousness?'”
Physicist: “I don’t know”.
John Lennox: “Let’s go for an easier one, what is energy?”
Physicist: “Well, we can measure it… I don’t know.”
John Lennox: “I’m glad you said that, because that’s what the physicist Richard Feynman believed. You believe in consciousness and energy – but you don’t know what they are. I’m thinking of writing you off as a physicist! You believe in energy and consciousness, but why do you believe in it? You believe in them because of their explanatory power”.
John Lennox: “I can’t explain to you how God became human, but it’s the only explanation that makes sense of the evidence.”

5. Does science oppose God?
Ans: There are certain concepts of a ‘god’ that might be opposed to science, but not the God of the Bible. There might be certain kinds of ‘gods’ that are invented to explain things we don’t understand. For example, many of the ancient people believe that sun is a god. But now we know that sun is a star. Such kind of a god idea opposes science because science explains away nature. The God of the Bible is not the god of gaps but the God of the whole show.

6. Why do bad things happen to good people?
Ans: Human arrogance tends to believe that if we had been in charge of creation we would have done it better. It seems that suffering is very much a part of God’s plan for our brief sojourn upon this planet. Jesus Christ put these things together wonderfully. Jesus didn’t conquer despite of suffering and pain, he conquered through it. There are no other philosophies in the world which make sense of suffering and pain. If God rescued from every problem those who are true to Jesus, Christians would not need faith. Their religion would be a great insurance policy, and there would be lines of people ready to sign up.

7. How can a loving God send people to Hell?
Ans: The premise is correct. God loves us. But His love is strong, rather than weak and permissive. The question should actually be, “How can a holy God let sinful people into heaven?” You can’t simply camp out on God’s love and forget His holiness. No one is worthy enough to enter heaven. But because of His love, God wants us to be with Him. So, Jesus’ death on the cross, where He paid the penalty for all that we have done wrong, took the death we deserved and died. This was God’s way of satisfying His holiness and demonstrating His love. Look at that sacrifice: God has done everything possible to keep people out of hell. What have you done about that provision? Are you choosing hell rather that heaven?

8. Won’t a good moral life get a person to heaven?
Ans: Living a good life can’t get a man or woman into heaven, because God’s standard for “good enough” is perfection. If He allowed anything imperfect into heaven, heaven would be marred. So who can get to heaven on his own merit? No one can, because no one is perfect. All the prayers, meditation and charity we do are outer coverings for a life of lust. The Bible says that even our good deeds are like dirty rags in front of God.
So how can anyone get there? All one needs to do is trust in the perfect Jesus and his death on the cross as the penalty for our sins, paid in full. Jesus rose for our justification. God offers a relationship with Him on this earth and eternity with Him in heaven.

9. Christianity claims to be true, but there loads of denominations and they all disagree with each other, so it must be false?
Ans: Why does the existence of denominations imply Christianity is false? It might imply that Christians have very different personalities and cultures – or even that Christians aren’t good at getting on with each other –but not that Christianity is false. Christianity stands or falls on the life of Jesus Christ, not on the acts of His followers.

10. Can you prove that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?
Ans: The Bible says that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. If Bible is true and the Jesus’ accounts in it are reliable then it ultimately shows that Jesus is the Son of God. But the best evidences comes from Jesus Himself, He can meet you, talk with you and unequivocally prove Himself that He actually arose from the dead.
But an important question to ask oneself is, “If Jesus Christ is the Son of God, am I ready to repent and trust Jesus Christ as my Lord?”
